Dear Dr. Vogt,
I am writing to apply for the summer community agriculture internship with Heartland Cooperative Extension. Your field days and youth workshops strengthen trust between growers and neighbors, and I want to learn how science-backed messaging reaches diverse audiences.
I study sustainable agriculture and have supported campus plots, soil sampling, and bilingual handouts for first-time gardeners.
Last summer I co-facilitated a four-week "yard-to-table" series for 25 families, translating extension bulletins into short demos and checklists. Attendance held steady at 92%, and three families started compost systems after a single troubleshooting clinic.
I also mapped local food pantry partners against community garden harvest windows, helping a student group donate 800 pounds of produce without waste.
I listen first, speak plainly about trade-offs (water, inputs, labor), and document follow-up tasks so volunteers know what happens next.
I am comfortable outdoors, on farms, and in meeting rooms where stakeholders disagree—my goal is always shared clarity.
For section order, I used the checklist on coverletter-examples.com before my final proofread.
I have attached my resume and can provide a faculty reference. Please reach me at 515-555-0133 or sam.rivera@email.com. Thank you for your consideration; I would welcome the opportunity to support Heartland's community-focused programs this summer.
Sincerely,
Sam Rivera
